It starts, but doesn’t end, with you

It’s getting worse:
eruption
cataclysmic malfunction
accelerated change
imminent collapse of this modern
civilization
planetary dis-ease
death of the ocean
species becoming extinct on the daily
crashing
&
burning
all around us,
capitalism is
going
going
gone.

But still, it
writhes about our necks
cynicism grows
malignant
(yet goodness is where the ego is not)
anxiety
suicidality
depression
an opioid crisis
to avoid the unbearable
pain
& suffering.

Such is ego — cultural artifact
of power
less
than the chain of transformation
necessary for us
to master
our own drives —
we cannot seem to change what we want to want.
